The end—but we still need your help
We got a nice massage courtesy of The Body Shop people at the tent next to the finish line, went back to the bach in Kinloch for showers and packed up for a four-hour crampfest in the car. Worked very hard to keep my Matamata Big Mac combo down.
Slept and went back to work on Monday.
We are still a bit short of our fundraising target though and have little time left.

Legs 4 to 7 - the twilight hike
The Government really had no choice but to end Daylight Savings by this time of the year. Darkness was nipping at our heels—and we’d barely left the Checkpoint 3.

Taupo’s name origin
The name Taupo comes from Māori Taupō-nui-a-Tia. Literally translated, it means “The great cloak of Tia” where Tia is the name of the discoverer of the lake.

Prehydration begins
Today we begin the prehydration regime. Lauren explains:
“Use sports dinks at 50% concentration in the two to three days pre-event in preference to water to prehydrate. Normal intake should be approximately 5ml/kg (i.e. 275ml if you weigh 55kg) five times per day for base hydration.”
Headlamp testing
Kayla, Lauren and I walked a small one-hour loop around Grey Lynn/Westmere/Western Springs on Monday night to test our night gear. We’re pleased to report that it was a successful nocturnal operation.
Number of bugs consumed: 5+ each.
